Situated in Bishopton, right next door to Mar Hall, Erskine has been challenging golfers for more than a century.

It has stood on the banks of the Clyde Estuary since it opened in 1904 and offers an interesting mix of holes. The opening eight and final two holes roll through lush countryside and weave around mature trees, whilst the stretch in between is flatter and more 'linksy' in nature.

The variety on offer is testament to three golf legends who have worked on the design of the course over the years. The original layout was sculpted by Troon professional Willie Fernie, before Dr Alister MacKenzie was brought in to re-design the 12th and 13th holes shortly before he turned his hand to developing Augusta National. The great James Braid subsequently made his own raft of improvements in the late 1930s.

But don't just take our word for how good it is. Consider this review left on the club's website.

"A very nice picturesque course, maintained to a good standard. Not overly long but some tricky holes, especially on the fabulous back nine. Would definitely recommend."
