Situated in Royal Deeside, just 20 miles west of Aberdeen, Torphins is a wildly underrated place to play.

Its nine-hole course incorporates 13 different tees playing to ten different greens, so you can easily play it as an 18-holer if that's what you're looking for. Alternatively, the standard nine-hole routing won't leave you disappointed.

Established in 1896 as a result of the expanding railway network in Scotland, it has stood the test of time, adapting to all of the challenges that have come its way.

Today, it is highly regarded by those in the know, who reserve particular praise for its terrific fourth hole. A downhill par-3 measuring almost 250 yards to a hidden green, it wouldn't look out of place on some of the country's more high-profile courses.

Give it a go - we think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
