Set in the Aberdeenshire countryside, just 16 miles north of Aberdeen, the 18-hole McDonald course is a treat for players up in the top of Scotland.

The parkland course is named after its benefactor, Sir James McDonald who, in 1926, gifted the old woodlands to the people of Ellon.

Through the trees and rhododendron bushes, the original course, which was a nine-hole track, winds through the forest, while the well established first nine twists and turns through an age-old stream that features on most of the holes across the course.

At just over 5,600 yards, the course won't tax you too much off the tee, but it can certainly provide a challenge. As always, just keep it in the thin stuff, as the fairways are superbly maintained, and the greens are in excellent condition for annual tournaments and events.
