Player surprises golphin kids

Three-time Open champ takes time out to attend junior golf brand’s St Andrews event

Gary Player was on hand to take part  in ‘an awesome kids golf event’ during the Open Championship as he appeared at the golphinforkids festival at the Fairmont St Andrews resort

The event, organised and sponsored by  the Ayrshire-based business, was designed to inspire kids to play the game during the biggest week of the golfing year.

Kids from China, America and other parts of the UK joined juniors from local communities around Fife at the event, with two youngsters in particular - Tommy Morrissey and Jack Dirkin - both benefitting greatly from learning to play golf with the innovative golphinforkids design.

ADVOCATE

The products are so highly regarded, the R&A chose golphinforkids products to be exclusively used in the Swingzone centre, which was set-up in the tented village throughout the Open Championship.

“It was a pleasure to see a company that is an advocate of getting kids involved in the game of golf,” said Player. “To experience the positive impact Golphinforkids has on the lives of children, some with disabilities, in person made it a special day for me.”

Duncan Weir, executive director of the R&A, said:
“The high quality and versatile golphinforkids kit is very impressive. It is certainly well geared for getting youngsters into golf and helping to address the undoubted participation issues the sport is currently facing here in Great Britain and Ireland.

“Getting youngsters interested in playing sport is admirable and, within golf, many people are doing their very best. One such example is Calum McPherson, whose golphinforkids product range is making a significant impact. The R&A purchased some of his kit and it has proved very popular.“

HONOUR

McPherson added: “Having Gary Player pop over to meet the kids at our event was a great privilege and an honour.”

Golphinforkids clubs are grouped in age and height brackets, with models for ages three through to 11-years-old. Clubs are available individually and in sets, with the latter including a driver, 7-iron, putter and ‘swedger’ - a super forgiving wedge - along with a bag and  unmistakable Dolphin driver headcover.
