TaylorMade has officially announced the arrival of the SLDR driver which it claims is the longest hitting driver it has ever produced. Featuring a sliding weight system, the SLDR has been engineered to launch the ball high, fast and long from the tee.
A lower and more forward centre of gravity is key to the leap in distance as it helps to promote lower spin and faster ball speeds. With an impact similar to that of the ‘Speed Pocket’ in the RocketBalzz fairway and Rescue clubs, everyone at TaylorMade is excited about the release of their newest driver.
“Without a doubt, this is the longest driver we have ever created,” said Benoit Vincent, TaylorMade’s chief technical officer. “Our expertise at positioning the centre of gravity low and forward sets us apart from our competitors, and is vital to making SLDR the spectacular distance machine that it is.”
The SLDR incorporates a complete reinvention of TaylorMade’s movable weight technology (MWT) and features a blue, 20-gram weight that slides on a 21-point track system on the sole of the club. This new system means it has never been easier to reposition the weight in the clubhead as you simply have to loosen the screw, slide the weight to the point you wish and then tighten the screw. The whole process can be completed in as little as 10 seconds.
Alongside the MWT, the SLDR features the brand’s Loft-sleeve Technology which was used in the R1 that hit the market at the beginning of the year. It means you can choose from 12 different loft positions within a range of plus-or-minus 1.5 degrees.
Used at the Open Championship by Luke Donald, Dustin Johnson and Brandt Snedeker amongst others, the SLDR has a classic design with a charcoal-grey crown that contrasts with the silver face to help with alignment.
