Play your best golf

absonputting

Play your best golf. That’s the goal to start the season, right? That’s everyone’s goal – to go out there and perform to the best of our abilities. You would be amazed, actually, how easy that can be. It involves good thinking, good preparation and good decisions.

To play your best your golf, you need to hole putts. Putting accounts for over 40% of your shots on the course, so improving your putting conversion rate will also place less pressure on your short game.

Putting accounts for over 40% of your shots on the course – Gavin Abson

Let me give you a couple of simple statistics. When putting from three feet, the average golfer makes approximately 90% of putts but, when putting from six feet, the percentage drops to around 50%. With this in mind, the three-to-six-feet-from-the-hole putt is your ‘practice area’.

Play your best golf – practise!

When practicing, go through the same pre-shot routine, being careful to set-up correctly every single time, and then simply hit, hold and look. Hit the ball down your intended line, hold your eyes on where you made contact until your stroke is finished and then look at the ball rolling into the hole. Repeat, and repeat again.
