‘True-Roll’ face insert is stand out feature on the Nome TR putter

PING has unveiled its newest putter to the market, built with the aim of making the putter easy to align as well as helping you effectively control speed.

Its predecessor, the Nome putter, quickly gained a positive reputation at the start of 2012 on Tour as Hunter Mahan put it in his bag on the eve of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship before going on to win the event. He followed that victory up with another a few weeks later, using the Nome at the Shell Houston Open.

PING has now returned with a new addition to the series, the Nome TR , boasting variable-depth grooves in the face. These first featured in the Scottsdale TR series and it is an innovation that PING says produces unmatched distance control.

The variable depth grooves are at their deepest in the centre of the face insert and get shallower toward the perimeter to deliver consistent ball speed no matter if the ball is struck on the heel, toe or centre. According to PING, research with this technology shows nearly 50% improvement in ball-speed consistency when measured across nine points on the face.

The high MOI and extreme forgiveness in the putter come from the balance of a lightweight head and perimeter weighting in the form of tungsten-composite sole weights.

“Variable-depth grooves have caught on exceptionally well with the average golfer and with many PING tour pros, who have won four times in the past month with variable-depth-groove putter,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “The Nome TR’s distinctive alignment bar with a contrasting sightline gives golfers added confidence to sink more putts. The combination of distance control, accuracy and extreme forgiveness will be exciting to golfers.”

The RRP for the Nome TR putter is £239 with a fixed-length shaft and £269 with an adjustable-length shaft. For more information on all PING equipment, head to
