Callaway Big Bertha Fusion

Since 2004, the Callaway Big Bertha Fusion name has been renowned for giving golfers extra help throughout the bag. Now, it is back bigger and more forgiving than ever with the launch of the new driver and fairway woods.

The sizeable forgiveness was always the key to the success of the Big Bertha Fusion line and, in these newest releases, it can once again be found in abundance.

Callaway says it has ‘pushed the boundaries of forgiveness more than ever’ and the description of the new design as a ‘super forgiveness driver’ gives you a clue to just how successful its R&D team has been.

“Fusion gives golfers the green light to make a fast, aggressive swing.” – Evan Gibbs, Callaway’s director of woods R&D

As manufacturers try to make clubs more forgiving, they tend to move more and more weight to the edges of the clubhead. That’s exactly what Callaway has done here. The only difference in the Callaway Big Bertha Fusion is that the amount of weight moved has been huge.

By combining an aerospace-grade titanium Exo-Cage with an extremely light triaxial carbon crown and sole, Callaway created Fusion Technology.

The introduction of this technology meant Callaway’s engineers had a whopping 35.4g of weight it could position to the edges of the head and as far back from the face as possible. The end result is extremely high levels of forgiveness across the full face.

Evan Gibbs, Callaway’s director of R&D for woods, said: “Big Bertha Fusion’s unparalleled forgiveness and stability at impact promotes straight flight on mis-hits and gives golfers the green light to make a fast, aggressive swing.”

Elsewhere in the driver, Callaway has included its Speed Step crown to reduce the drag acting on the head, improving the speed of the clubhead at impact for more distance.

The driver is joined in the Callaway Big Bertha Fusion family by a set of fairway woods aimed at all types of golfer.

With the Callaway Big Bertha Fusion fairway woods, it has introduced a new shape that it says works on all levels of performance. Like in the driver, the triaxial carbon crown features, allowing Callaway to reposition weight for improved launch and distance.

Faster ball speeds come from Callaway’s Hyper Speed Face Cup, making the ball fly farther on both centre and off-centre hits.
