Mizuno JPX Platinum

Mizuno has added a touch of luxury to its golf ball range in Europe with the introduction of the new five-piece Mizuno JPX Platinum for players with slower swing speeds.

Described as a ‘luxury, soft feel premium model’, it arrives from the Japanese market as a complement to the brand’s existing MP-S, MP-X and JPX balls.

The five-piece Mizuno JPX Platinum construction is what gives the soft feel and it has been built around the brand’s Cross Core. The new core is able to convert more energy into ball speed, without giving the harder feel associated with distance golf balls. It works with the Centre Core and Outer Core to give more feel on and around the greens.

The dimple clusters, which also feature on the standard JPX ball, were the result of work between Mizuno’s golf ball R&D team and the Fukuoka Institute of Technology. They improve the aerodynamics of the ball and allow it to stay straighter for longer.

“A traditional tour ball plays much shorter for the average player,” – Alex Thorne, Mizuno’s tour and product manager in Europe

Ultimately, the goal with the Mizuno JPX Platinum design was to give extra driving to golfers with swing speeds of up to 90mph without sacrificing feel.

“A traditional tour ball plays much shorter for the average player as for the average player as they don’t generate the energy required to fully activate the core,” explains Alex Thorne, Mizuno’s European tour and product manager.

“The Mizuno JPX Platinum represents a new generation of balls that deliver the feel and responsiveness of a tour ball – but with a high energy core that’s optimised to their swing speed.”
