Bridgestone Golf pulls out of UK and Ireland

• Bridgestone Golf to leave UK and Ireland in March 2016
• Brand had only started trading in the UK three years ago
• Any future investment seen as ‘unsustainable’

In a surprising move, Bridgestone Golf has announced it is to withdraw from the golf market in the UK and Ireland from March 2016.

The move means the brand’s golf balls, which had continued to increase in popularity over the last three years, and the clubs will no longer be available to golfers from retail stockists in either country.

The primary reasons for the decision taken by the parent company in Japan were described as the prevailing market conditions, currency fluctuations and the outlook for long term sales.

Steve Kettlewell, Bridgestone Golf’s UK managing director, said: “Despite having lifted market share in the ball sector in the last three years, it has been determined that any future investment was unsustainable.

“We can only apologise to our loyal customers for any inconvenience that this unfortunate situation may cause and thank them for their support of the Bridgestone Golf brand.”
