Set along the River Spey with the Monadhliath and Grampian Mountains all around, Newtonmore Golf Club is one of the more spectacular parklands you'll play in the whole of Scotland.

The course has been shaped by some of the very best in the game, from the original nine holes which was laid out by Old Tom Morris in the 1880s, to the course extension overseen by Tom Turnbull, then finally James Braid applying the finishing touches after the first World War.

The 6th and 7th are two favourites here - a doglegged par-4 with a green guarded by a burn, followed by a delicious short par-3 that will test every inch of your accuracy.

One quirky fact about Newtonmore is it is said to have the highest percentage of left-handed members in the world. This, the club believes, is due to the double-handed nature of shinty, a traditional highland sport. Indeed, when the clubhouse was extended, it was opened by none other than Bob Charles - the first left-hander to win The Open, back in 1963.
