Popular pro Ewart retires after 39 years

Arbroath Golf Links professional Lindsay Ewart is retiring after 39 years at the helm.

Arbroath Golf Links professional Lindsay Ewart is retiring after 39 years at the helm.

Ewart attended Carnoustie High School and his early golf lessons were from Fred Bullock, who was runner-up to Gary Player in the 1959 Open.

The club has organised a pro-am event to celebrate his retirement, where 42 pros and over 100 amateurs will compete.

Bob Jamieson will be the guest of honour at the event, where there will be a chance to win a car at the seventh for a hole-in-one.

Ewart has recently become a grandfather and his time will be taken up with babysitting duties, hopefully playing some golf and spending more time at Gayfield to support his beloved Arbroath FC. Craig Knowles, formerly of Glenrothes Golf Club, will take over from Ewart as Arbroath's golf professional in October.
