Acclaimed Scottish designer David declares his brand new US design as his ‘greatest achievement’ to date

HUNTSMAN SPRINGS: remember the name. Designed by Scotland’s David McLay Kidd - the man behind the Castle Course, Machrihanish Dunes and famed US course Bandon Dunes - it’s one course in the USA you might want to take note of.

The Idaho course, described by McLay Kidd as his ‘greatest architectural achievement’ to date, is part of a new resort and nature reserve located close to the ski resort of Jackson Hole and within a short drive of Yellowstone National Park. The golf resort offers a natural retreat where families can enjoy the serenity and beauty of the undiscovered Teton Valley.

GRACEFUL

With the stunning Teton Mountains as a backdrop, Huntsman Springs blends into its native lands with graceful contours, fishable ponds, aspen trees, willow and ‘Irish Links’ features. Players have a sense of vast open spaces with views in every direction. The course lends golfers an array of options and strategies to get the most out of their game, including split fairways and many bunkers.

The par-72 course provides championship conditions from May to October. The fairways average 80 yards wide and the greens are, on average, 10,000 sq. ft.. There are also 153 bunkers and 450,000 cubic yards of sand, which maintain contours and promote drainage.

NUANCE

McLay Kidd, winner of US Golf Magazine’s 2008 “Architect of the Year” Award, said: “When asked what are my greatest achievements in golf design so far, most expect me to say Bandon Dunes. Huntsman Springs is, to me, my greatest golf architectural achievement. We seek to take golfers on an adventure marked by nuance, subtlety and unpredictability. My design philosophy is to embrace nature’s imperfections.”
