High-profile golf coach makes move across the Borders to new club
Steve Johnston has been appointed as the new PGA professional at Peebles Golf Club.
A pro since 2002, Johnston joins Peebles from the nearby Roxburghe Golf Club, where he had been for the past seven years. He had previously worked at both the Macdonald Cardrona and Musselburgh (Monktonhall) clubs.
Originally from North Berwick, where he played as a junior, Johnston was also a member at Peebles between 1996 and 2002.

However, he is perhaps best known for being part of Scottish Club Golfer sister title bunkered’s ‘Teaching Panel’, where he has even been featured on the magazine’s front cover, inset.
One one of only 5 GSEB (Golf Stroke Engineer Bachelors) ‘Golfing Machine’ level 1 coaches in Scotland, Johnston has helped develop a number of top young players in his career to date.
Among his star pupils at The Roxburghe was talented youngster Danielle Kerr, who saw her handicap fall from 36 to two in just five years under Johnston’s tutelage.
At Peebles, he will offer club members a wide range of coaching services, including playing lessons, group lessons, beginner coaching and junior coaching, family and ‘bring a friend’ lessons, offering state-of-the-art video analysis and ES14 launch monitor technology to help improve players’ games.
A club spokesperson commented: “Steve’s appointment marks and exciting new chapter for the club and we look forward to developing a great partnership with him and enhancing the member and visitor experience at Peebles.”
