Male-only clubs in decline - but what about Royal Troon?

Should the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers vote to admit women as members, that will leave this year’s Open host venue Royal Troon as the last remaining male-only club on the Open rota.

In January 2015, the Ayrshire links announced its intention to undertake a ‘comprehensive review’ of its circumstances ‘to consider the most appropriate membership policy for the future’.

What makes Royal Troon unique from some other male-only clubs is that it has a separate club for women, which has around 370 members and with which it will jointly stage this year’s Open.
