Midlands-based pro finishes on top
DAVID LAW has won the second Links Golf Cup in East Lothian after carding a four round cumulative total of 127 Stableford points in the competition that was played over Gullane No.1, Gullane No. 2, Longniddry and North Berwick.
Law, who is based at Enville Golf Club, recorded 34 points in his final round to hold off the challenge of Bedlingtonshire’s David Hetherington and Broomieknowe’s Fraser Devlin, who finished with 125 points.
CONTESTED
The Midlands man capped a great week by also taking the Links Golf Cup Par-3 Challenge, contested over eight selected short holes during the week. Meanwhile there was further delight for the winners of the team competition. Named the ‘Yorkshire Tees’, Andrew Greetham, Trevor Hewson, Nigel Richardson and Edward Battye took the team prize.
Organisers of the event, which is backed by former Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart, were delighted with its success and reported double the number of entrants from the inaugural event in 2013. One competitor gave particularly positive feedback, saying: “I have played in hundreds of amateur events, but none were as well organised and professionally run as the Links Golf Cup.”
It is anticipated the field will grow to around 120 competitors next year as the reputation of the tournament continues to grow in amateur circles.
