Great Brittan & Ireland captain Elaine Farquharson-Black was left frustrated after seeing the Continent of Europe make it six-in-a-row in the Vagliano Trophy.
The sides were locked at 6-6 going into the final day at Circolo Golf Bogogno in Italy but a 4-0 whitewash of the morning foursomes matches handed Anna Roscio’s European side a huge advantage going into the final singles session. That left GB&I with too much ground to make up and they ultimately went down 15-9, much to Farquharson-Black’s disappointment.
“We know we have the potential to play better than that,” she said. “We peaked too early on the first day and for some reason we were not firing on all cylinders on the second day. We just could not get up any momentum.
“I have to say the golf overall was of a very high standard, higher than I can remember in the winning Vagliano Trophy teams in which I played.
“There were a lot of birdies and we had our fair share of them but not enough of them to turn the tide our way on the final day.”
In the Junior Vagliano Trophy match, meanwhile, the Continent of Europe coasted to a comfortable 15-3 victory over GB&I.
