Delegation meets in Glasgow to discuss how new air link can throw up more opportunities.
ISLE OF MAN GOLF TOURS hopes closer links between the Isle of Man and Scotland could be forged through golf following a high-level political meeting, writes Bryce Ritchie.
The Isle of Man’s most senior government figure, Chief Minister Allan Bell, led a delegation of leading business, sport and cultural representatives to Glasgow to mark the start of a new air link between the Island and Scotland.
Among the delegation, which was met by Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond, was Ged Power of Isle of Man Golf Tours. He was there to explain more about the award-winning dedicated golf tour operator and the golfing opportunities the Island has to offer.
Chief Minister Bell said: “Isle of Man Golf Tours has been doing a sterling job growing this visitor market for the Island, and our time in Scotland showed there is further growth potential. Mr Salmond is a very keen golfer and was keen to ensure that, alongside the business, social and cultural links we hope to strengthen, golf plays a major part.
“I look forward to seeing Isle of Man Golf Tours bring many more Scottish players to our shores to experience the exceptional courses, as well as all the other wonderful delights our Island has to offer.”
The purpose of the visit was to highlight areas where links can be strengthened, through business, tourism and culture.
Ged added: “I was delighted to... explain more about the exceptional courses the Island has, as well as the stunning scenery, wonderful attractions and world-class quality food and drink.
“I am thrilled at the prospect of strengthening links with the home of golf. The Scottish people have a vast amount of golfing heritage and it will be splendid to share our courses with them.
“I was particularly delighted to hear golf was discussed when our Chief Minister, Mr Bell, and his ministerial colleagues held talks with Mr Salmond. It appears Mr Salmond is a keen player, so perhaps we’ll see Scotland’s First Minister on an Isle of Man Golf Tour soon.”
