Hickory shop is step back in time

Golfers with a love of the history of the game are being encouraged to visit the newest ‘oldest’ golf shop in the home of golf.

Golfers with a love of the history of the game are being encouraged to visit the newest ‘oldest’ golf shop in the home of golf.

The Jack White Hickory Golf Shop, which opened earlier this year, has been doing a roaring trade as visitors revel in the joys of hickory golf.

The shop is based at 37 Main Street, Gullane, the area that gave birth to the unforgotten past Open champion, Jack White, who was born in nearby Dirleton.

White won the Open in 1904 and was a trained clubmaker. He supplied the hickory woods to the Bobby Jones, and his experience in playing as well as in clubmaking was a massive success.

The shop has a large selection of playable, as well as collectable, golf clubs being presented for sale.

The history of golf can be experienced first hand, dating from 1850 to 1935. Handmade Nebuloni golf shoes, from Italy, as well as Oldfield clothing, a brand of British made attire, such as plus fours and vintage design sweaters, are being exclusively provided in-store.
