Grangemouth man ends his year on a high

Blair wins in his second season

Grangemouth’S Lindsay Blair has stormed to victory in this year’s SGU Seniors’ Order of Merit in only his second season in the over-55s ranks.

The 56-year-old brought a very solid year to an end with a fine result at the Seniors Order of Merit Finals Day at Blairgowrie, where he ended runner-up to John Fraser. Despite his second place finish, it has been his consistency throughout the year that has earned him the title.

Blair amassed a huge points total of 872.50 in 2013, well ahead of second placed Fraser who earned 570 and Turnhouse’s Lindsay Gordon who finished in third with 520 points.

Thanks to six top-four finishes, Blair has run away with the title in some style this year.

“I’ve had a super run, it’s been amazing,” said Blair, who was third in the standings last year after winning the Scottish Seniors Open Stroke Play Championship on his event debut.

Blair has competed in both the European Team Championship and Home Internationals with Scotland this year and is thoroughly looking forward to playing for them again.

He added: “I was joint-winner at Forfar in the East of Scotland Open in June and just kept things going from there. But I didn’t really think about the points too much, I was just  focusing on making the Scotland team as I enjoyed it.”
