East defeats West in clash

Dunbartonshire neighbours go head-to-head

East Dunbartonshire claimed victory over neighbouring West Dunbartonshire to take home the inaugural Charlie Green Trophy. The event, held at Dumbarton Golf Club, was a Ryder Cup style golf match organised by Active Schools.

Twelve players from each local authority, aged 14-18 years old, competed in the team match play event with friends, family and supporters all gathering on the day to show their support.

The first four groups played a fourball-betterball format and East Dunbartonshire raced into an impressive lead securing a 3-1 margin of victory from the opening matches.

The final four games were singles matches and East Dunbartonshire ran out winners of that session too to complete a comprehensive 5½-2½ win.

The competition was delivered by the Active Schools teams from both East and West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trusts who worked in partnership with ClubGolf, local schools and golf clubs to stage the event.

Active Schools manager for West Dunbartonshire Andrew McKay said: “Our inaugural Charlie Green Trophy was a great success. Despite the challenging weather on the day the players really enjoyed competing and representing their region.

“I think we really captured some of the Ryder Cup spirit and feel with the players and caddies kitted out in blue and red team colours.

“We hope this is the start of a long local legacy from Charlie Green’s exceptional golfing career.”
