Scottish Golf Courses

Amateur first for Royal Aberdeen

Royal Aberdeen will stage the Amateur Championship for the first time in the event’s 130-year history in 2018.

The Balgownie Links, which hosted the Scottish Open in 2013 and Walker Cup two years prior, will play host to some of the world’s finest amateur golfers for the matchplay rounds of the championship, with the strokeplay qualifiers to be held at Murcar Links.

Royal Dornoch, meanwhile, has been confirmed as the host venue for the Boys Home Internationals in the same year, with the Junior Open set to be contested over the hugely popular Eden Course in St Andrews.

Making the announcement, Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, the R&A’s executive director of championships, remarked: “We have a very strong list of championship venues for 2018 and they will provide a real challenge for the leading amateurs. I know the players will be excited at the prospect of playing such outstanding links courses and we can look forward to some tremendous golf.”
