Morocco cements hotspot tag by becoming 'family favourite'

With more than 35 golf courses spread across its seaside locations, Morocco is fast becoming a popular destination amongst golfing families.

Sitting on the northern tip of Africa, Morocco boasts more than 300 sunny days per year and its impressive offering of high quality golf courses is attracting more and more families.

Now, some of its clubs are looking to capitalise on that by offering family lessons, dedicated children’s golf academy courses and tuition. Others are making discounts including green fees at half-price or cheaper available in peak months of family travel.

The nine-hole Atlas Golf Marrakech course organises golf instruction for juniors during every school holiday in addition to holding a year-round academy catering for 35 resident children. Holiday-time lessons are available for youngsters aged from seven to 17, while there’s a ‘baby school’ for four to seven-year-olds.

The Montgomerie Marrakech gives free golf for under-18s during school holidays if they play with their parents, and a 50% discount on green fees throughout the year.

In between your rounds of golf together, you can also enjoy the sights and sounds of this lively cosmopolitan and exotic city, topped off by a visit to one of its famous souks.

It’s not just Marrakech where families can enjoy great golf at a discounted price. There are four courses in the seaside resort of Agadir with a host of academy classes, junior rental clubs and reduced green fees available.

Arguably, the most impressive is at Tikida Golf Palace, which overlooks the two courses of Agadir’s Golf du Soleil. Academy classes here for under-12s are discounted if taken for five days. Children taking lessons also get 50% off green fees, but if you’re staying at the hotel you can enjoy a free 18-hole daily golf pass between May 1 and September 30.

Half an hour from Agadir, you’ll find the Hyatt Place Taghazout Bay. Its Kyle-Phillips-designed Tazegzout course has a Kids Academy for junior golfers aged from six to 12 years old, with group lessons every Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning. Junior tuition options range from one-hour individual tuition to five days for individual or groups.

Wherever you choose to stay in Morocco, the whole family will be able to enjoy the golf and the culture.
