The Garmin Approach G7 and G8 handhelds, which are being unveiled at the PGA Show in Orlando, have a brand new measurement feature called PlaysLike Distance. This helps to show an adjusted range for uphill and downhill shots. The Approach G7 and G8 also have the Club Advice feature, which remembers how far you hit each club and makes recommendations based on shot distances.
Ideal for golfers who prefer to leave their phones in their bag while they play, the Approach G7 and G8 have the same Smart Notification tech used in the Approach S4 watch that allows you to stay on top of your emails, texts and alerts through the device.
“The new Approach G7 and G8 gives avid golfers the choice to find the right golfing tool to fit their needs best,†– Martin Resch, Garmin‘s EMEA product manager outdoor
Both models have sleek, colour touchscreens and come fully loaded with over 30,000 international courses. They also come fitted with a rechargeable battery that will last you several rounds before needing to be recharged.
Like other Garmin products they can double as a digital scorecard that gives scoring options for Stroke Play, Stableford, Skins and Match Play.
The Approach G8 differs from the Approach G7 as it is a premium satellite navigation device. It has an easy-to-read three-inch multi-touch display and also offers the unique PinPointer features. This means you will always know where the centre of the green is even if you can’t see it from where you’re standing.

“Both new golfing handhelds provide a number of great features, such as the adjusted shot measurements in the PlaysLike Distance feature that will give golfers a leg up on their game, no matter what course they are playing on.â€
