According to the guys at Puma, Fowler came to them with the idea and they were more than happy to oblige according to Grant Knudson, head of footwear for Puma Golf.
“Each season we work closely with Rickie throughout the apparel and footwear development and design process to ensure we’re pushing the limits when it comes to both performance and style,” said Knudson. “During a recent meeting, Rickie expressed interest in wearing a high-top cleated shoe that could be worn with more progressive apparel, such as jogger style pants.
“Rickie expressed interest in wearing a high-top cleated shoe…Â Our design team took inspiration from a prior Puma high-top lifestyle shoe” – Grant Knudson, head of footwear for Puma Golf
“Our design team took inspiration from a prior Puma high-top lifestyle shoe and combined it with the TitanTour Ignite outsole. The result is a stylish, cleated performance high-top that includes a lace and Velcro closure.
“The apparel team then matched this with a version of our 6 Pocket Pant that been custom tailored to a jogger silhoutte.”
Fowler may well have taken some inspiration from friend Michelle Wie’s Nike Blazer shoes that she debuted in the final major of 2015.
While the shoes and custom ‘pants’ may have just been made for Fowler, Puma Golf is planning to do a giveaway over its social media channels. Stay tuned to @PumaGolf if you fancy a chance of winning them!
Would you wear the @PUMAGolf high-tops worn by @RickieFowler ahead of the @HyundaiTOC?
