The brand has designed and supplied the shirts and knitwear for every European Ryder Cup team since Europe’s famous first win on American soil in 1987 at Muirfield Village.
Glenmuir has hand-picked and designed Europe’s teamwear in conjunction with captains Tony Jacklin, Bernard Gallacher, Seve Ballesteros, Sam Torrance, Bernhard Langer, Ian Woosnam, Sir Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie, Jose Maria Olazabal and now Paul McGinley.
“We are all excited to see the team in our shirts and knitwear on the first tee at Gleneagles whilst we’re all rooting for the European team.” – Glenmuir managing director Mikhel Ruia
Ann Miller, Glenmuir’s design and buying director, has been working on the European Team’s outfits since February last year and she said: “We are working to produce garments that not only look good but also perform in the intensity of one of the world’s greatest sporting competitions.
“First, we have to consider the technological specifications as when the event is in Scotland, there are different requirements than when it’s in the US. Ultimately, the fabrics are more performance-based with the shirts having superior characteristics, which will make them quick drying, breathable and highly moisture wicking. Our knitwear has natural characteristics that makes them breathable, lightweight and warm to ensure the players are kept insulated in the cool Scottish climate.
“We’re keeping this year’s designs very much under wraps until the European team steps out on the first tee at Gleneagles.â€
Glenmuir’s managing director, Mikhel Ruia, added: “Being involved in the Ryder Cup really motivates our team at our headquarters in Lanark, Scotland. Many of our staff will be attending in September, given that it’s so close to home.
“A lot of planning, precision and passion go into creating the team shirts and the knitwear. It really is a team effort right through our organisation from design, buying, production, embroidery and delivery.
“We are all excited to see the team in our shirts and knitwear on the first tee at Gleneagles whilst we’re all rooting for the European team.
“All of the team suppliers, whether they’re Scottish, from continental Europe or America, come together in collaboration to support the Ryder Cup, it’s a testament to the very nature of the Ryder Cup matches.
“Having been part of this truly global sporting spectacle for over 25 years is a great honour for Glenmuir. But given that the Ryder Cup is in Scotland this year, it’s just that bit more special for us.â€
