Stranraer has the distinction of being the last course designed by the great James Braid before his death. In spite of being set on the shores of Loch Ryan, a saltwater loch that is the main ferry gateway from Scotland to Northern Ireland, Stranraer is strictly parkland.
Laid out on former pastureland with many stands of mature trees, it offers undulating ground and fabulous views up and down the loch with the various ferries sailing to and fro.
This is an enjoyable layout that requires some good, clear thinking from both the tee and the fairway.
