Situated at the foot of the Eildon Hills, Melrose is an excellent nine-hole course in the heart of the Scottish Borders.

The course slopes mainly upwards for the first two holes, and while the fourth hole may appear easy at only 343-yards for a par-4, it has a sharp dogleg left that cannot be cut, which adds a little edge to the layout.

Similarly, the longest hole on the course, the par-4 eighth, has a sloping fairway that draws your ball towards the rough requiring a bit of care off the tee, with four bunkers added into the mix for fun.

Stephen Gallacher labelled Melrose golf course "one of the hidden gems in Scottish golf" and its hard to disagree given how it plays.

It's tucked away giving players a tranquil round, and while the water features certainly bolster how good the course looks, beware of them.
