Girvan Golf course boasts the same glorious views towards Ailsa Craig in the Firth of Clyde as its iconic neighbour Turnberry. Girvan was designed by James Braid, the renowned architect who has the first hole named after him. The course design has remained largely the same ever since Braid took advantage of his stunning surroundings to create a course combining the best features of both links and parkland golf.
The first eight holes on the layout are pure links, while the parkland back nine offers variety and just as stiff a challenge. At just over 5,000 yards, the par-64 is far from the longest, but will require clever club selection and course management in what is undoubtedly a complete Scottish golfing test.
