Golf in Argyll and Bute

Located in an area of natural outstanding beauty, Argyll is definetely worth visiting. In an area spanning the north west of Glasgow and southwards reaching the Kintyre Peninsula including Oban across Loch Lomand and The Trosschs Natural Park this region is rich in a diverse range of landscapes and boasts 26 excellent golf courses.

The Kintyre Peninsula on its own provides golf enthusiasts with three courses all within close proxmity of one another: Machinrash, Machinrash Dunes and Dunaverty, all courses offering something different. All you need is the stamina to play 54 holes!

Machrihanish is just one fine example of what wonderful courses Argyll and Bute has on offer: widely acclaimed for its first hole known as 'The Batter' plays across the corner of a beach and the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. A truly dramatic and breathtaking start to a superb round of golf.

Off the mainland and towards the Scottish Ilses off the Argyle coast such as Arran and Bute: the great golf experiences keep on coming. Arran boasts seven outstanding courses and stunning scenery all reachable by ferry only an hour from Ardrossan. These courses include Shiskine a course regularly listed in the UK’s top 100 courses and features holes seated at the base of Drumadoon Cliffs and sporting a view over Kilbrannan Sound. As well as this only a short journey from the ferry terminal by car you can find the Brodick a beautifully maintained course. Whitling Bay, Corrie, Lamlash, Machrie Bay and Lochranza complete the seven courses available on Arran.

The Machrie course found on the Isle of Islay is a hidden gem and is one of the most remote links in the world. Over the last decade it has benefited from substantial renovations and investment making it one of the region's most underrated treats.
