Golf in Argyll & Bute, Oban and Mull

Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Argyll is definitely worth visiting. In an area spanning the north west of Glasgow and southwards reaching the Kintyre Peninsula, including Oban across Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, this region is rich in a diverse range of landscapes and boasts 28 top golf courses.

The Kintyre Peninsula on its own provides golf enthusiasts with three courses all within close proximity of one another: Machrihanish, Machrihanish Dunes and Dunaverty, all courses offering something different. All you need is the stamina to play 54 holes!

Machrihanish is just one excellent example of what beautiful courses Argyll and Bute have on offer. It is widely acclaimed for its first hole known as 'The Batter' that plays across the corner of a beach and the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. A dramatic and breathtaking start to a superb round of golf.

Head off the mainland and towards the Scottish Isles near the Argyll coast such as Bute, Mull, Tiree and Islay and you'll find the great golf experiences keep on coming.

Bute is easy to reach from the mainland via the ferries at Colintraive and Wemyss Bay. The island has three golf courses including the James Braid designed Rothesay which circles around Canada Hill and gives you great views across the Cowal Hills, Firth of Clyde and the Mull of Kintyre.

The Machrie course found on the Isle of Islay is a hidden gem and is one of the most remote links in the world. Over the last decade it has benefited from substantial renovations and investment, making it one of the region's most underrated treats.
