Whether or not it ever gets another shot at hosting The Open remains to be seen but there can be no doubting the championship credentials of the Ailsa Course.

Four times a host venue for the game's oldest major, this Ayrshire gem has changed significantly since Stewart Cink lifted the Claret Jug there in 2009.

A comprehensive raft of alterations and improvements - including the total redesign of the ninth, tenth and 11th holes that occupy the land around the lighthouse - has taken an already-exceptional course and, somehow, made it so much better.

Opening the lighthouse and transforming it into a halfway house raised the levels even further.

There's no escaping the fact that a round here isn't cheap... but it's worth every single penny. Quite simply, it's one of the world's best courses.
