Golf has been played on this stretch of coastline a few miles east of Edinburgh since at least 1672, but it wasn't until the formation of North Berwick Golf Club in 1832 that a proper course was laid out.

Originally six holes, which would be played three times for competition purposes, the course expanded beyond the March Dyke stone wall and as far as the Eil Burn over the coming decades - with both features now heavily involved in every round played at this stunning links.

It's about as much fun as you will have on a golf course, and one of the more unique experiences you'll ever enjoy. And that's before you get to the stunning views out across the Firth of Forth to Craigleith Island and Bass Rock.

The 190-yard par-3 15th, Redan, is one of the most famous holes - and the most copied hole - in the world, and is just a perfect example of the many ways you need to be creative around the West Links.

Quite simply one of the finest golf courses in Scotland - nay, the United Kingdom - nay, the world - and an absolute must-play.

It ticks every possible box. What are you waiting for?
