If you want to escape to the countryside on a visit to Scotland’s busy central belt, head for the village of West Calder, around 14 miles west of Edinburgh.

Only a short distance off the M8 motorway, you'll come across Harburn Golf Club, which is an ideal rural retreat.

The course, 870 feet above sea level, is set on the northern slope of the Pentland Hills, the whole of its undulating area commanding a superb view in all directions.

It’s a heathland course lined with differing species of trees and is a hidden gem in this part of the Home of Golf, offering all sorts of challenges.

The par four 10th hole will catch your attention as it drops down to a contoured green, but beware of the water in front of the putting surface.
