Golf in Perth and Kinross

Affectionately known as the ‘Big County’, Perthshire is both the historic and geographic heart of Scotland, extending from Strathmore in the east, to the Pass of Drumochter in the north, Rannoch Moor and Ben Lui in the west, and Aberfoyle in the south. With its varied landscape and topography, it is full of magnificent courses which prove beyond doubt that the best of Scottish golf is by no means restricted to the coast.

Gleneagles, is very much the embodiment of everything that is good about Scottish golf. The moorland setting of the King's and Queen's courses are wonderful examples of James Braid's brilliance in the field of course design. Some believe it to be his best work. Carnoustie, in Angus, is widely considered one of the toughest tests of golf in the world. It is a genuine monster of a course and will test even the most gifted of players. Auchterarder sits right next door, with a fairway that runs parallel to the PGA Centenary.

The likes of Murrayshall, Alyth, and Crieff’s superb Ferntower course are also highly recommended, along with Pitlochry, which is home to some of the most dramatic and spectacular mountain views in Scottish Golf. It was once said that Pitlochry is ‘where golf, beauty, and social life go hand in hand’. That, you’ll be glad to hear, is an accurate assessment!

Dunkeld & Birnam, Aberfeldy, Cragie Hill, King James VI and the Bruce and Montgomery courses at Kinross Golf Club are more of the excellent layouts that await golfers hoping to take a visit to Perthshire and Kinross.
