Golf in the Lothians and around Edinburgh

No visit to Scotland is complete without a trip to our beautiful and historic capital Edinburgh. The city combines a perfect balance of a medieval Old Town with Georgian New Town, delivering a memorable experience for all who pay it a visit.

Extending along a 40-mile stretch of coastline, East Lothian has the official title as the sunniest part of Scotland, ideal for fair-weather golfers.

Gullane Golf Club features three courses which are praised for their quality links golf. The great golf writer Bernard Darwin described the view from the top of Gullane Hill as ‘one of the most beautiful spots in the world’. From the seventh tee on Gullane’s first course there is a fantastic view of the surrounding Edinburgh and Fife areas, including the Forth Bridges.

For a picturesque course that lies inland, Royal Mussleburgh is a great place to visit. The course was designed by the famous golf architect James Braid, and remains largely unchanged. Additonally, the course houses the Old Club Cup, the oldest cup in the world, which is still played for competitively today.

Cragielaw’s course is a stunning example of a newer golf course establishing itself highly among the more historic courses in this region. Designed by the great golf course architect Donald Steel, it opened in 2001 and has since been the host of popular golfing events. Its serene and peacful surroundings would never suggest that it is only rougly half an hour from Edinburgh’s busy city centre.

With so many great courses at a convenient distance from Scotland’s capital city, there is no underestimating the allure of the Lothian region.
