Tarbat Golf Club was founded in 1909 and sits in the beautiful little seaside village Portmahomack with great views of the Dornoch Firth and Moray Firth. It is a classic seaside nine-hole links course and an ideal starter before tackling the better known courses nearby such as Royal Dornoch and Tain.

It is anything but a walkover, however. A number of holes have sufficient armoury that could easily see you reload whatever the weather. For example the par four, 8th has been known to destroy a few score cards thanks to its elevated green and tricky approach shot.
