TRUMP COURSE IS named 'BEST IN THE WORLD'

Major accolade from American magazine for tycoon’s Aberdeenshire layout

DONALD TRUMP has said all along that his Aberdeenshire golf course would be the finest in the world. Now, he has the award to prove it.

The billionaire American tycoon and golf property developer visited Trump International Golf Links Scotland recently to receive an award from the Robb Report, a prestigious, luxury-lifestyle magazine for affluent connoisseurs, which has voted the layout the best golf course in the world.

HONOURED

The course, which opened last summer to huge acclaim, features in the June edition of the magazine, where it is described as a ‘masterpiece amid the millennia-old sand dunes in northern Scotland’.

Accepting the six-star diamond award from Joseph B. Cinque of the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, Trump  commented: “I am absolutely honoured to receive this award on behalf of everyone at Trump International Golf Links Scotland. This is recognition for all of the hard work and dedication that has gone into making this course happen.”

Trump also used the visit to walk the site of his proposed second course at Balmedie.

RELAXED

Named in honour of his Scottish-born mother, Mary MacLeod, the course has been designed by Martin Hawtree - who laid out the original course - and it is hoped that construction will begin soon.

Hawtree joined Trump on his visit and explained that the new layout would be ‘a different style of challenge, a little more open and relaxed’ while ‘some holes to the south as equally spectacular as anything in the first’.

“Mr Trump’s instructions to me are to build the second best course in the world!” he explained. “We hope to get the planning application in by late August and that work can start in the New Year. We are all very excited about the project.”
