Scotland’s Rory Franssen has been rewarded for his fine play on the US college circuit by being picked for the Arnold Palmer Cup.
The annual Ryder Cup-style competition between college and university golfers from the USA and Europe takes place this year from June 9-11 at Atlanta Athletic Club, with Scot David Inglis captaining Europe.
Texas Tech and Sweden’s HannesRonneblad and Fredrik Nilehn, Kristoffer Ventura of Oklahoma State (Norway), Jacksonville’s David Wicks (England) Harry Ellis of Florida
State (England), and Missouri’s Franssen qualified for Team Europe by finishing in the top six on the Arnold Palmer Cup Player Ranking.
Franssen’s achievement is all the more impressive given that the Inverness native, who has posted two top tens in the US, is in his freshman year. A year ago, he lifted the Proudfoot Trophy as the leading strokeplay qualifier at the Sanlam South African Amateur as part of Scottish Golf’s winter performance programme.
