Golf Courses in Dumfries and Galloway

Dumfries and Galloway accounts for 200 miles of expansive coastline, rolling countryside and remarkable panoramas – the perfect natural canvas for making some golf course magic.

The likes of James Braid, Mackenzie Ross and Willie Fernie have all contributed courses to this part of the country, with spectacular results.
Perhaps the most famous course in the area is Southerness, a classic 18-hole links that overlooks the Solway Firth and has staged numerous high-profile tournaments since it opened in 1947.

Thornhill is another fine place to play. It combines the best parts of parkland and heathland golf, making it plenty of fun to play. This is also where Andrew Coltart, who played in the 1999 Ryder Cup, learned to play.
Then there’s Stranraer, which has the distinction of being the final course designed by the aforementioned Braid. Situated on the shores of Loch Ryan, the 6,308-yard parkland course occupies gently undulating ground and offers superb views of the loch and beyond to towards Ailsa Craig.

There are so many perks to playing golf in Dumfries and Galloway, including the warm rush of the Gulf Stream which provides the region with a mild climate, making play possible on all but a small number of days. You’re going to love it.
