Designed by Dave Thomas, Macdonald Cardrona is a championship length mix of parkland and woodland golf, and is one of the best layouts in the south of Scotland.
In recent years, the course has undergone improvements, with upgrades to the conditioning of the greens meaning it's worthy of hosting championship golf.
There are some signature holes on the front-nine. With water left and right of the green, the par-3 fifth is a potential card wrecker early in the round. The next, a par-5, requires a carry over a burn into a narrow landing area while trying to avoid large fairway bunkers.
The final hole is a challenging par-4, with trouble all the way down the right and a large bunker to the left of the fairway. It makes for a great test.
