Taking over from Tighnabruaich Golf Club in 1906, Kyles of Bute opened its nine-hole course designed by David Adams. At the official opening, a match against Rothesay Golf Club was played, which remains an annual tradition.

Set on the hill above Kames, a small village by the shore in Argyle and Bute, the golf course boasts views across the water to the Isle of Bute, Loch Fyne and past Arran.

Kyles of Bute is a hilly, moorland course consisting of nine intriguing holes. There are no bunkers, but there are burns, punitive rough, and long carries over heather, whin and blind holes to keep you on your toes.

The first hole is only 110-yards, but you have to approach vertically to carry the Dooley Moolachs, stone and heather outcrops before the green, while everyone loves the ninth, 'Cnoc', poised 200 feet above the water of the Kyles at your back.
